Data Protection Manager
Leatherhead - Hybrid (minimum of 2 days a week onsite)
Primary Function
The Data Protection Manager will act as PFEWs expert in Data Protection and will be responsible for monitoring internal compliance, Data Protection Impact Assessments, and leading risk evaluation related to privacy and data protection across the organisation. This role will ensure that PFEW is compliant with UK GDPR and data protection laws, policies, awareness raising, training, and audits. The Data Protection Manager will act as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) for PFEW and will be the main point of contact for the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), reporting to the General Counsel and collaborating with HQ departments, Branches, independent advisors, and external parties.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and maintain PFEW compliance policies, procedures, and standards for UK GDPR and other data protection laws.
* Evaluate, implement, and maintain data protection and privacy policies, and security around personal data according to data regulations.
* Carry out Data Protection Impact Assessments and review processes, monitoring performance in relation to data regulations.
* Serve as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and act as the main point of contact for the ICO.
* Be the main point of contact for data subjects and the subject matter expert on issues relating to processing.
* Review and process Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, ensuring due diligence regarding potential risks and the context of information requested.
* Lead and process data incidents and data breaches, managing processes, responses, and escalations, while advising the General Counsel and Senior Leadership team.
* Provide advice regarding complaints and appeals by data subjects, including areas where the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act intersect.
* Lead PFEW's response to any regulatory investigation or request for information.
* Implement data protection audits to evidence compliance and accountability.
* Design and implement data protection awareness raising, training, and audits.
* Oversee the maintenance of records required to demonstrate GDPR compliance.
* Partner with a range of stakeholders to advise and support with data-related queries.
* Line management and development of the Data Protection Coordinator.
Key Skills & Experience
* Experience influencing, leading, and educating peers on topics related to data protection.
* Expertise in data protection laws and strong working knowledge of policies, awareness raising, training, and audits.
* Good working knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, with the ability to assess risk and ensure context is considered.
* Able to collaborate with stakeholders and work independently, demonstrating professionalism and confidentiality.
* Pragmatic approach with the ability to balance risk with operational benefits.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Data Protection qualification would be advantageous.
