We are recruiting for an EHC Assessment Officer within the KCC Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Service.
We have redesigned the way that we work in SEND from the bottom up and developed something that we think is unique in the country. It offers an unparalleled variety of opportunities working in the largest authority in the country, and we have ensured that there is investment in people through our continuous professional development offer.
In this role, you will be expected to manage the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHNA) process and produce high-quality Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans within statutory timescales. You will work across all age ranges and phases of education, covering Early Years to Post 16. You will need to write the EHC plan using the information gathered during the assessment and work collaboratively with wider professional agencies to ensure the outcomes specified in the EHC plan are identified and delivered.
The position of an EHC Assessment Officer is a highly demanding role, and you will have responsibility for a large caseload. It will be essential that you have high levels of organisational and effective time management skills. Frequent communication will be required with parents/carers, education providers, wider professionals, and colleagues.
You will be required to understand and utilise data sets to assist your daily work. Furthermore, you will be expected to initiate, organise, and represent KCC at meetings related to the Statutory Assessment (SA) process with key stakeholders, both internal and external. These will include meetings such as co-production meetings, Ways Forward Meetings, tribunal discussions, and other operational meetings. It is essential that you have a working knowledge of all relevant legislation around SEND, including the SEN Code of Practice January 2015 and the Children and Families Act.
This role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving Licence – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments, so while this job requires the jobholder to drive, your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.
This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
