We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Junior Payroll Clerk to join our growing payroll team. The successful candidate will assist the Payroll Manager and Senior Payroll Clerks in processing payrolls for a variety of clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with UK legislation.
The Junior Payroll Clerk will play a key role in the accurate and timely processing of client payrolls, supporting the team with administrative tasks, and maintaining up-to-date payroll records. You will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of payroll calculations, data entry, and the handling of client queries. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal role for someone looking to learn and grow within the field of payroll.
Responsibilities:
1. Payroll Processing: Assist in the accurate and timely processing of weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc payrolls for a range of clients across different sectors.
2. Data Entry: Input employee details, earnings, and deductions into payroll systems with high levels of accuracy.
3. Compliance: Ensure all payroll processing complies with HMRC guidelines, pension auto-enrolment regulations, and company procedures.
4. Documentation Management: Assist with the preparation of payroll-related reports and ensure payroll files are maintained and stored securely.
5. Client Communication: Respond to client payroll queries via email and phone, escalating complex issues to senior team members where necessary.
6. Tax and NIC Deductions: Ensure that PAYE, National Insurance, and other statutory deductions are calculated and applied correctly.
7. Reconciliation: Assist with payroll reconciliations, including checking payroll totals and ensuring that all reports match figures entered into the system.
8. Payslip Distribution: Help prepare and distribute payslips, P45s, P60s, and other necessary payroll documentation to employees.
9. Pension Contributions: Assist in the calculation and submission of pension contributions, ensuring compliance with auto-enrolment requirements.
10. Administration: Support with maintaining and updating payroll systems, running reports, and keeping records up to date.
11. Learning & Development: Stay informed of changes in payroll legislation and participate in training provided by the firm.
Requirements:
1. Strong numerical and data entry skills with a high attention to detail.
2. Basic understanding of payroll principles and HMRC guidelines (desirable but not essential).
3. Proficiency in MS Windows and MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
4. Strong communication and organisational skills.
5. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
6. Eagerness to learn and develop within the payroll field.
Experience:
1. Previous experience in payroll or a similar role (desirable but not essential).
2. Experience using payroll software such as BrightPay or Xero (desirable but not essential).
