We are seeking a highly skilled Rail Signalling Designer with expertise in Control, Command, and Signalling (CCS) systems, specifically in the design and implementation of interlocking systems (mechanical, electronic, and computer-based) and train detection technologies such as track circuits, axle counters, and ETCS Level 2.
In this role, you will be responsible for scrutinising rail system suppliers' designs, products, and engineering solutions, asking fundamental questions, and ensuring the proposed systems meet the required safety and operational standards, including compliance with frameworks like the Common Safety Method (CSM).
This role requires more than project engineering skills; we need someone who can 'look inside the box' and challenge the technology, pushing for innovative solutions. Experience as a Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) or design architect is preferred, as you will be tasked with evaluating and overseeing supplier designs and processes on a new high-speed railway. You will play an essential role in ensuring that the CCS systems integrate seamlessly within the wider railway infrastructure, leveraging advanced technologies such as Digital Interlocking Systems and Traffic Management Systems (TMS).
You will need a solid understanding of risk management, railway technical standards, and compliance frameworks. Experience with the European Train Control System (ETCS), especially Level 2 and 3, and the use of Automatic Train Operation (ATO) at Grade of Automation Level 2 (GoA2), is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be a problem-solver who can challenge designs, ensure effective system integration, and drive safety and innovation within complex signalling systems
