Senior Packaging Engineer
Job Description
The Senior Engineer, Packaging Development is a crucial role within the European Division. This position is responsible for the insight development, design, development, and translation of package innovations across all product categories. The role includes executing regional value leadership and supply security projects, working as part of a team to provide deep technical package understanding, and developing insights to drive innovation. The Senior Engineer will lead packaging development activities and ensure the execution of allocated projects within the European R&D Delivery Division.
Responsibilities
* Lead packaging activities and be accountable for executing allocated programs to bring projects to commercialization.
* Ensure technical packaging designs are delivered to meet brand Key Quality Attributes (KQA).
* Ensure the package development process is completed within timelines to market packages.
* Ensure package specifications are accurate for correct costing.
* Specify package quality and manufacturing quality performance measures and corrective actions for each new and current package.
* Work within cross-functional teams to evaluate desirability, feasibility, and viability for all projects.
* Collaborate with R&D Factory Innovation peers to ensure packages can be scaled effectively within existing manufacturing technology capabilities.
* Partner with external manufacturing/packaging peers to deliver solutions through external supply networks as needed.
* Collaborate with regional R&D peers to ensure effective technical delivery of the project.
* Leverage external suppliers to implement fit-for-purpose packaging solutions.
* Stay knowledgeable on consumer profiles, brand frameworks, major competitors, markets, processes, packaging, quality, and new developments in food technologies, packaging, design, and category trends.
* Manage Intellectual Property risks and opportunities derived from projects proactively.
* Handle high-profile and complex projects simultaneously and initiate projects from personal insights or initiative.
Essential Skills
* Sound knowledge in packaging constructions, materials, and machine interaction.
* Demonstrated ability in packaging development, expertise in 1st wraps and films, cartons, and cases preferable.
* Good knowledge of food safety and hygiene programs, packaging, printing, legislation, and raw materials.
* Understanding of packaging development, legislation, food processing, and production knowledge.
* Ability to set priorities and demonstrate project management skills.
* Experience in managing diverse stakeholders both in demand and supply.
* Experience working with outside vendors to deliver project requirements.
* Experience working with Operations.
