The Table Tennis Association of Wales – or Table Tennis Wales, as it’s better known – is the national governing body for the sport, and we have a vision to: ‘inspire Wales to enjoy table tennis - a sport for all, for life.
Table Tennis Wales is responsible for both the grassroots growth of the sport and the development of Wales’ Commonwealth and Olympic Games elite athletes.
A long-established and highly respected guardian of the sport, ensuring the safeguard of participants and protecting the integrity of the game, Table Tennis Wales was set up in 1921.
It is a founding member of both the International Table Tennis Federation (1926) and the European Table Tennis Union (1956).
And from these firm foundations, Table Tennis Wales dedicates itself to the development of the game – with community-based projects inspiring new players and ensuring that the next generation of medal-winning hopefuls are provided with the very best opportunities to achieve their potential
The role
We are seeking an inspiring and visionary leader to shape the future of Table Tennis in Wales. As the Lead Coach for the Table Tennis Wales performance pathway and para players, you will play a pivotal role in driving excellence and guiding athletes to senior international success.
We are searching for a coach who is not just focused on performance, but who can ignite passion, build relationships, and lead with integrity. Person Specification
Essential skills:
* Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to motivate, inspire, and influence a diverse range of stakeholders.
* Exceptional organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks effectively, even under budgetary and resource constraints.
* A genuine passion for table tennis and a commitment to promoting it as a sport and physical activity.
* A growth mindset, eager to learn, adapt, and thrive in a dynamic and evolving performance environment.
* High levels of self-awareness and emotional intelligence, enabling a flexible approach to problem-solving.
* A solid understanding of the company’s strategy and key performance indicators, with the ability to generate innovative solutions.
* A flexible working approach, with the willingness to work evenings and weekends, as required.
* Proficient in administration and IT skills to support efficient operations.
Essential qualifications:
* A degree or equivalent qualification in coaching or a related field.
* Minimum UKCC Level 3 Table Tennis qualification, or the ability to gain this within 12 months.
* Up-to-date safeguarding training relevant to the sport.
* Current and valid DBS check.
* Full, clean driving licence.
Essential experience:
* Proven substantial experience of coaching, including at major championships or games.
* Expertise in mentoring and developing other coaches, with a focus on continuous improvement.
* Proven experience delivering technical and tactical coaching programmes to athletes at the national level.
* Comfortable using technology to enhance coaching methods and athlete development.
* A comprehensive understanding of performance in sport, including the integration of physical, psychological, and social factors into coaching programmes.
* A thorough understanding of sports performance, including the creation of strategic plans for performance development pathways.
Remuneration: £36,000- £38,000 per year.
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours a week
Location: Sport Wales National Centre, Pontcanna, Cardiff CF11 9SW
Reporting to: TTW Chief Executive Officer. Also works with the TTW Board Director for Performance.
Travel: Regular travel required across different training sites in Wales, Home Nations and internationally.
