NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society. We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices. NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board. Prescribing Support Pharmacy Technician - Primary Care 2 (WTE) x AFC Band 5 Pharmacy Technician (part time would be considered) Salary Scale: £31,892 - £39,735 pro rata NHS Lothian serves a population of approximately 1 million people, employs 35,000 people and is fundamentally focussed on improving the health and wellbeing of the population. The NHS Lothian Primary Care Pharmacy and Medicines Service is undergoing an ambitious programme of transformation and integration. Pharmaceutical care is provided by a team of around 100 pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and administrators, working across General Practices and Pharmacotherapy Hubs covering the whole of Lothian. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Lothian. Do you want to be at the forefront of transforming the delivery of pharmaceutical care? Do you want to work in an environment that values staff and supports their learning, growth and wellbeing? Do you want to work with a dynamic team who have the ambition to be “the best Pharmacy service in Scotland”? West Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) are increasing their clinical capacity across Primary Care in support of the Scottish Government’s Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care strategy and in fulfilment of the plans for a General Practice Clinical Pharmacy Service. We are delighted to offer opportunities to work closely with GPs, other practice staff, community pharmacists, care home staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary team and central team colleagues to support the development and application of high quality, safe, cost effective and evidence-based prescribing in the HSCP. These posts will give you the opportunity to develop your clinical and technical skills in practice to allow you to work within GP to provide holistic, patient-centred individualised care to improve the safety and effectiveness of individual’s medicines. There are also opportunities to become involved in joint projects/initiatives within the HSCP as required in accordance with identified local and national priorities. An important part of this post will be to support the development, delivery, evaluation, and monitoring of prescribing efficiency plans with the lead pharmacists. Experience of using systems such as PRISMS to analyse prescribing data would be an advantage but not critical. The post requires the ability to work predominantly autonomously, being responsible for your own outcomes, and contributing to the prescribing support team objectives. This will require self-direction, confidence and problem-solving skills. With a National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent Pharmacy Technician qualification and current registration as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council, applicants should have extensive post certification experience. Primary care experience is not essential as training will be fully supported but experience of working with GPs would be an advantage. Applicants should have excellent communication, IT and organisational skills and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
