Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available for an inspirational and motivated Clinical Manager within the Day Theatre on the Yeovil District Hospital site of Somerset Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of 2 operating theatres, the post-anaesthesia care unit, an integrated admission and discharge ward and standalone self contained Modular Theatre.
We are looking for an exceptional individual who demonstrates excellent leadership qualities, is proactive and has the ability to prioritise their own workload. You will be expected to work cohesively within the multidisciplinary team demonstrating excellent communication skills to maintain the efficient provision of our Day Surgery Service to the patients of Somerset.
You will need to be clinically credible with a proven background in Theatres as either a Nurse or an Operating Department Practitioner. It is expected that you will have some proven leadership experience and/or knowledge gained from a leadership programme that will underpin your ability to take on this senior role.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The role is highly operational therefore the post holder will provide visible leadership to their teams, demonstrate a passion for delivering safe and efficient care whilst working collaboratively with our other Theatre Clinical Managers and Theatre Matrons. You will work closely with the Theatre Management Triumvirate on theatre utilisation and planning, staff recruitment and retention and colleague development.
You will maintain and continue to improve on the excellent standards of clinical governance within Day Theatre ensuring you are approachable and accessible to patients, relatives and colleagues.
Quality Improvement is at the core of our service delivery, the successful candidate will be expected to fully engage with our quality improvement projects, being able to contribute to change and successfully deliver changes that will improve patient experience, increase theatre capacity and support recruitment, retention and colleague development.
We would like to hear from individuals who have experience working at a senior level within a theatre environment and are keen to embrace change. We actively encourage informal visits to meet the team and the department.
The successful candidate will be fully supported by the senior team and be provided with a bespoke training and education plan in order to ensure success within the role.

Able to undertake the higher-level clinical skills required for the specialist area. Computer literacy in relevant IT systems and basic word processing skills. Knowledge of relevant NHS legislation to include clinical governance/COSHH/Health and Safety/Infection Control/Clinical Waste/Manual Handling/Confidentiality and the Data Protection Act. Ability to prioritise own time and time of others. Up to date knowledge of current evidence-based practice in nursing/ theatre practice. Ability to assess complex clinical situations and act appropriately. Evidence of a good standard of Literacy / English language skills. Ability to communicate with people at all levels of understanding either face to face, on the telephone, e-mail, or written communication by dealing with incident reports, writing statements and letters to staff.
