Clinical Fellow in Ophthalmology Special Interest in Oculoplastics
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust welcomes applicants to apply for a Fellow post in Ophthalmology with special interest in Oculoplastics at the Western Eye Hospital. This is a full-time post within the Oculoplastic service. There may also be an opportunity to undertake sub-specialist work in negotiation with the successful candidate.
For a fixed term of 12 months in the first instance.
The post offers an exciting opportunity for an energetic and innovative person to join the ophthalmic service for the UK's first Academic Health Science Centre and the largest trust in the country.
Applicants must be currently or previously working within the NHS, have MBBS or equivalent, and at least 4 years of training in ophthalmology, and be fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will be involved in:
* Out-patient care of adnexal patients, including trauma, eyelid, orbital, and lacrimal disorders in adults and children.
* Ad hoc care of eyelid trauma and emergencies and be available for advice when off-site.
* Undertaking A&E sessions at the Western Eye Hospital (at most once a week unless paid separately).
* Maintaining good communication with GP, optometrists, hospital clinicians, and other allied professionals.
* Managing Individual Funding Request applications.
* Providing teaching to medical students, other junior doctors, and optometrists.
* Assisting in academic and pharmaceutical research activities within the department.
* Vetting adnexal referrals.
* Assisting in the management and development of the clinical service.
Job Responsibilities
The post holder will provide high-quality care to patients in Ophthalmology and must be medically qualified and maintain GMC registration. Responsibilities include:
* Developing and maintaining the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
* Ensuring prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care activities.
* Involving patients in decisions about their care and responding to their views.
* Taking an active role in managing patient pathways in their respective area.
* Undertaking administrative duties associated with their patients in line with departmental guidelines.
* Supporting the training of junior specialist trainees and other junior doctors in the Ophthalmology department.
* Overseeing the appropriate booking of theatre lists.
* Demonstrating excellent leadership skills within the wider Ophthalmology team.
* Working collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and Imperial College as required.
* Adhering to Trust/departmental guidelines on leave including reporting absence.

Academic Achievements Including Research/Publications
* Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Audit
* Understanding of principles of clinical audit.
Teaching and Training
* Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff.
Education and Qualifications
* On GMC's register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice.
* On GMC's Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration.
* Appropriate Royal College Membership.
* Currently working in NHS.
* MD, PhD.
Clinical Expertise in Specialty/Sub Specialty
* Ability to perform minor eyelid procedures, administer botulinum toxin, assess thyroid eye disease, and carry out other oculoplastic treatments.
* Experience in oculoplastics, emergency ophthalmology, and general ophthalmology, achieving Royal College of Ophthalmologists ST1 to ST3 competencies or equivalent.
* At least 3 years of full-time ophthalmology experience.
* Experience in ophthalmic surgery and oculoplastic surgery.
* Logbook of procedures and experience.
* References.
Language
* Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements.

Depending on experience, £41,750 - £64,288 per annum plus London Weighting.
