Job Description
As a key support to the Section Manager, you will oversee the daily operations and shift management of the technical cleaning team. Working closely with Facilities, Automation, and Operations, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and care in high-risk, low-usage areas within the warehouse.
This role requires strict adherence to company policies and procedures, including COSHH, Manual Handling, and Health & Safety regulations. You will also attend annual training on cleaning machinery and commercial equipment. Your primary responsibility is to maintain a clean, well-presented warehouse, focusing on hard-to-reach operational zones while ensuring general cleaning and waste management standards are upheld.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with the section manager to coordinate cleaning tasks and priorities.
* Assist in leading the team, providing supervision, and managing team members.
* Oversee daily departmental activities and cleaning operations.
* Monitor team wellbeing, providing support where possible and escalating concerns when necessary.
* Conduct 1-2-1 performance reviews and manage the team using KPIs.
* Administer software systems used for scheduling and reporting.
* Supervise cleaning shifts across multiple schedules.
* Provide technical support across different shifts.
* Step in to cover the Section Manager role when required.
* Ensure all staff training and equipment maintenance align with company guidelines.
* Plan and schedule both routine and reactive cleaning tasks based on business needs.
* Liaise with warehouse associates, contractors, suppliers, and internal departments.
* Contribute to project work as needed.
* Support the wider Facilities team in maintaining warehouse standards.
* Conduct spot-checks to ensure work quality.
* Maintain service records and manage cleaning equipment in compliance with company policies.
* Assist with any operational tasks as required by the business.
There are 2 shift patterns for this role which will be on a rotational basis.
Day - 6am - 2.30pm
Night - 9.15pm - 6.15am
Qualifications
What we are looking for:
* Minimum of three years’ experience in a warehouse or large-scale facility, managing all aspects of cleaning and waste management to support the site's daily, weekly, and long-term operations.
* Background in soft services with relevant qualifications or experience.
* Proficient in operating modern cleaning machinery.
* Experience using CAFM systems and Microsoft Office 365.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to follow and convey instructions effectively.
* Solid understanding of industry standards and best practices, including:
o The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association (ISSA) and Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS)
o The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc)
o British Standard BS EN 13549:2001 (Cleaning services – quality measuring systems)
* Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Adaptable and open to new ideas, with a willingness to adjust to evolving demands and challenges.
* Strong problem-solving skills, utilizing expertise and collaboration to find effective solutions.
* Independent, self-motivated, and determined, with the resilience to sustain effort and hard work over extended periods.
