This person will help the business achieve its corporate objectives by effectively managing and mitigating legal risk and by providing accessible, timely and cost effective legal advice that adds real value to the business. They will work with the Divisional Director to ensure that the SJP Group complies with all legal requirements whilst maintaining good relationships with the regulators. They will also provide guidance and assistance to the SJP Partnership on relevant legal issues. This role could suit a newly qualified solicitor who is looking for a commercial role with great training in a leading Financial Services business. What you'll be doing: Provide legal advice/support to key contact client departments, the Field Management Team and Administration Centres. Provide legal support to the business and Partnership via the Legal Helpline, responding directly to queries where appropriate and redirecting queries to lawyers where specialist advice is required. Manage and investigate pension death benefit claims to ensure the Pension Death Benefit Committee has sufficient information available for a decision to be made on the distribution of such benefits. Review potential financial adviser recruit's existing contracts and report on restrictive covenants and data protection and confidentiality provisions to ensure the Field Management Team are aware of any restrictions that need to be placed on future activities. Assist with the conduct Subject Access Requests made pursuant to the Data Protection Act and ensure the business meets its legal obligations in that regard. Ensure that key contact areas are aware of legal developments which will affect them, and of the steps needed to respond to those developments in a timely manner. Ensure that the Department's standard forms, precedents and knowledge are up to date. Who we're looking for: Law Degree or equivalent post-graduate qualification. Qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales (or other acceptable jurisdiction). Able to develop a detailed understanding of the SJP business and its operations. Understanding of the SJP Partnership in order to effectively analyse and assist with legal issues raised via the legal helpline. Understanding of the Financial Ombudsman Service. Understanding of the requirements of GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 in order to advise appropriately on data protection issues. Able to absorb, understand and analyse a wide variety of legal issues and suggest pragmatic and commercial solutions. Risk sensitive but not risk averse. Able to develop deep and trusted relationships with colleagues across the business. Able to explain complex legal issues to different audiences. Able to deal professionally and diplomatically with a wide range of clients.
