What you’ll do at work
The apprenticeship as a Sports Coach offers hands-on experience in delivering high-quality activities at clubs, schools, and preschools. Apprentices will work closely with lead coaches, assisting in morning and afternoon clubs, PE sessions, and holiday programs while learning to plan, prepare, and deliver engaging activities in a safe environment. They will gain valuable administrative skills, undertake relevant training, and develop their communication and teamwork abilities. The role includes mentoring from experienced staff, opportunities for professional growth, and a focus on safeguarding and child welfare.
The Apprentice Sports Coach role involves assisting with day-to-day activities at clubs across various locations, reporting to Development Officers, and adhering to apprenticeship standards, company policies, and procedures. The role includes building relationships with children attending the clubs, their parents/carers, management, staff, volunteers, schools, registering authorities, and college tutoring staff. Main Duties:
The apprentice will assist in planning, preparing, and delivering quality activities within a safe environment, setting up activity spaces, and learning from lead sports coaches during morning/afternoon clubs, PE sessions, preschools, lunchtime clubs, and holiday clubs. Additional responsibilities include administrative tasks, maintaining good communication with all stakeholders, undertaking relevant training, ensuring a healthy and secure work environment, following company policies, engaging with the Active8 Minds development plan, and completing college work to a high standard within deadlines.
Person Specification:
Essential qualities include a passion for sports and coaching, professionalism, good IT and communication skills, teamwork, sound judgment, and sufficient English proficiency to ensure children's well-being. Desirable qualities include experience in sports coaching with children aged 4–11, administrative experience, the ability to work independently, a Level 1 sports coaching qualification, child protection training, and a current paediatric first aid certificate.
