Job overview
The Cardiac Physiology service is recruiting a full-time cardiographer/assistant cardiac physiology practitioner as part of a service re-structure and expansion plan. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth delivery of the Cardiac Physiology non-invasive service, supporting our patients, staff and Trust compliance to deliver electrocardiograms (ECG), Ambulatory ECG Holter monitoring, Ambulatory Blood Pressure monitoring and Holter monitoring analysis within the Cardiology Department.

This role will suit a team player who is also able to act on their own initiative and prioritise their workload with flexibility to meet the daily operational demands.
The role involves dealing directly with patients, clinicians and visitors to the cardiology department, performing a range of cardiac non-invasive diagnostic tests and developing skills for ECG interpretation and training/competency assessment for other healthcare professional learning how to perform ECGs.
In addition, the role includes using hospital digital systems and electronic patient record systems, MS Teams, basic excel databases and supporting waiting list management, so good IT skills are essential.
Main duties of the job
* To work as a member of the cardiac investigations team providing a clinical diagnostic service in a safe and responsible manner under the direction of the cardiac physiologists.
* To perform and record a range of non-invasive diagnostic procedures without direct supervision i.e. 12 Lead ECG (Electrocardiogram), Ambulatory ECG monitor fitting and removal, Blood Pressure Monitoring, ensuring accuracy is at the forefront of the work and escalating key indicators to supervisor.
* Provide a high standard of patient care at all times, ensuring patients are communicated with and understand the procedural requirements in relation to the non-invasive diagnostic procedures.
* Recognise waveforms and measurements of the normal and abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) and escalate to a senior physiologist where appropriate.
* To give the patients clear instructions and advice relating to the procedure, including but not limited to, the period of monitoring, care of the equipment, documenting of activity and symptoms throughout the monitoring period utilising patient diary arrangements.
* Ensure accurate record keeping within the departmental electronic system and forward any hard copies to the requesting specialist.
* Assist in prioritising own duties as well as sharing responsibility for the day to day organisation and service needs in role specific tasks i.e ECG, BP and Ambulatory Monitoring.

The Cardiology Department at Dorset County Hospital is a busy but friendly team of healthcare professionals. Cardiac Physiology supports numerous diagnostic and interventional examinations to provide a comprehensive and dynamic cardiac service to West Dorset. We currently have 2 Cath Labs, performing a range of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. We also provide highly skilled ECG, ECG analysis and Echocardiography procedures, cardiac device implant and follow up services.

Essential criteria
* General education to GCSE standard or equivalent, including English and Maths

* Society for Cardiological Science and Technology (SCST) Electrocardiogram (ECG) Certificate or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
* Basic Life Support (BLS) or willingness to undertake in the first month in post
* Society for Cardiological Science and Technology (SCST) Electrocardiogram (ECG) Diploma or willingness to undertake
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
* Competent Experience or Knowledge of in recording ECG
* Recent & relevant experience in a patient-facing healthcare environment
Desirable criteria
* Experience of working computer software such as Microsoft Office, digital patient records systems etc. willingness to train in Cardiology digital Platform Solus
* Experience of working with Healthcare staff at all levels
* Experience of communicating with patients of varying age, capacity and communication and understanding limitations.
* An understanding the meaning of confidentiality and the requirement for this to be maintained
* Proven Understanding of specialist healthcare science activities
Skills & Abilities

* Evidence of effective communication skills both written and oral
* Working knowledge of healthcare IT systems such as Digital Patient Records is desirable but full training will be provided
