Located in Gosport, we are now expanding our existing design team by recruiting a permanent Electronics Design Engineer.
Working as part of a small team of design experts, and under the direction of our Head of Design and Test, the Electronics Design Engineer will be involved in the delivery of innovative electronic design projects and associated test solutions.
A key role in design with responsibility for the delivery of innovative and cost-effective design solutions, on time and on budget, meeting or exceeding customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
1. Establish/negotiate and fully document clear technical requirements through liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
2. Actively participate in the planning and resource estimation of new design projects with any associated validation testing solutions.
3. Identify from the pre-bid stage, a clear plan for compliance with every aspect of customer requirements, capturing associated costs and timescales.
4. Liaise throughout the project with customers and suppliers as required.
5. Proactively alert peers, and management of any project risks and potential mitigation actions.
6. Create design concepts, schematics and associated specifications, review packs and validation strategies.
7. Ensure all design changes are fully documented, approved, correctly released and appropriately stored/archived.
8. Participate in DFMEA design failure mode effects & analysis reviews.
9. Ensure that all design work is cost optimised in accordance with product BOM cost targets and development labour budget.
10. Identify all product testing requirements needed throughout development and in manufacturing.
11. Identify most cost-effective hardware equipment to support tight specification and accuracy levels and help develop software solutions for testing – this also includes creating cost justifications for any capital investment.
12. Develop detailed validation testing procedures ensuring that all customer requirements are fully met with evidence, including test specifications for any sub contract testing.
13. Work closely with other designers and manufacturing leads to identify manufacturing test solutions with optimal coverage and minimal cycle times at the lowest possible cost.
Qualifications, Experience And Skills:
1. Electronics related degree/HND – significant demonstrable experience may be considered in lieu.
2. Proficient in the design of innovative, high-reliability, power-efficient electronic circuits for use in demanding environments.
3. A good understanding of the principles of designing for success in EMC testing.
4. Experience of working with various microcontrollers and micro code.
5. Experience of designing circuits with JTAG interfaces.
6. Attention to detail and a ‘right first time’ approach.
7. Willingness and desire to acquire new skills and invest in professional self-development.
Desirable:
1. Experience of electronics cooling simulation software.
2. Knowledge/experience of designing Intrinsically Safe circuits.
3. Knowledge or experience of Automated Testing.
4. Practical exposure to software programming.
5. Experience of working with C++ and C for microcontrollers.
6. Knowledge or proven ability to interpret defence standards.
7. Experience in a fast-paced Aerospace or Defence Quality manufacturing environment desirable.
