Due to provision expansion, we are looking for a number of passionate and engaging Achievement Intervention Mentors to join our friendly and student-focused Maths & English department. Our Achievement Intervention Mentors assist in the development of students’ Maths & English skills at GCSE and pre-GCSE, through the provision of targeted intervention sessions which will take place in the success centres at the college. This role is key in supporting students to achieve positive outcomes. Responsibilities include: Responsible for the support and day-to-day running of the English and Maths Success Centre, our dedicated space for intervention work and class group development, Monday to Thursday, 8:30 to 17:00, and Friday, 08:30 to 16:30. Complete registers within the Success Centers daily, in a timely fashion and in accordance with the College Attendance Policy. Assist students with any queries regarding Maths or English, using Century Tech and other online learning platforms, ensuring they understand how to proceed. Deliver engaging and effective intervention sessions within the Success Centre for group tuition in 1-hour time slots, targeting areas of development identified by the class teacher and/or student. Monitor records of students’ progress accurately and effectively throughout intervention processes. Offer support and guidance to students in the completion of work set in their Maths or English classes. Assist with the promotion of Maths & English provision across the college under the umbrella of the Success Centres. Facilitate and support the activities of work experience students assisting with English and Maths Success Centre intervention duties. Regular and effective communication with English/maths tutors. To deliver a wide range of effective and inclusive intervention activities. To monitor the in-session progress of students and provide them with constructive and timely feedback. Engage in continuous professional development relevant to the role. Contribute to outreach and/or widening participation activity within the Department/ School. Provide support for learners in line with the requirements of the curriculum. Education & Training Level 3 professional qualification in Maths or English. GCSE 5 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale. Experience Extensive experience of the complexities of Level 2 education, in particular as it relates to alternative provision. Successful experience of working with students on a 1:1 and group basis to achieve their career goals (in education, youth work or a community setting). Proven experience of working with parents/carers of children and young people. Experience of working with challenging young people to improve behaviour and attitude to learning. Experience of putting in place interventions that have improved a learners’ progress/improved behaviour/attendance. Experience of supervising/leading individuals/a team to successful outcomes.
