Islington Public Health is a unique public health service that forms a key part of the Council, and leads the way in improving the health and wellbeing of the borough's population and reducing health inequalities. We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Public Health Strategist who will take an active and strategic role in helping to deliver our department objectives, using their knowledge and skills to manage and deliver a range of projects and programmes within the Start Well, Mental Health, Healthy Communities team. Main duties of the job You should be able to demonstrate: a strong track record in developing, delivering and evaluating public health programmes; have good communication skills and a good understanding of the public health responsibilities of the local authority in relation to health improvement. You will work on the assessment of local health needs and the interpretation and implementation of public health policies, national guidance and the evidence base, to increase health outcomes in Islington. You will participate and sometimes lead on the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of public health interventions and programmes, services and strategic plans. The post-holder will work primarily within the children and young people’s section of the team, but may provide support across the broad spectrum of public health, as departmental needs require. As an Assistant Public Health Strategist, you will work with Public Health team members as well as with partners across both councils, CCGs, service providers, the voluntary and community sector and beyond. This post offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with excellent public health skills. You will have proven experience of using these skills and knowledge of public health methodology to develop, implement and assess policies, programmes and strategies to improve health and wellbeing and/or address health inequalities.
