Salary
£34,866 to £46,485 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
The University of Nottingham Centre for Dairy Science Innovation (CDSI) is part of the Agri-Tech National centre for Dairy research and has an opportunity for an Assistant Farm Manager (Dairy) to join the team.
This role is an opportunity for an experienced person with a proven track record of working in dairy farming to high standards who is willing to take on more responsibility.
The role is an opportunity for someone who has a passion for dealing with cattle to take the lead in the herd management on a high yielding, fully housed, all year round calving robotic herd.
You will support the Farm Manager (Dairy) in all aspects of animal husbandry, feeding, milking (via Lely Astronauts) and hygiene. There is opportunity to take ownership of herd health and performance, overseeing the meetings, teaching and market requirements of the milk buyer while maintaining the position of a leading dairy herd.
You will be the responsible person on site for a considerable number of days per year and will be expected to live in a house provided by the University close to the CDSI, for which the rent is almost entirely subsidised by the farm.
Candidates should be qualified to degree/HND or equivalent in Agriculture or a related field plus have considerable experience in a similar role or have extensive relevant work experience in a similar role. You will have the leadership skills necessary to manage a team and will have experience of operating a wide range of farm equipment. Due to the frequency that the role holder will drive vehicles a full, current driving licence is also essential for this post.
This role is available on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time; 36.25 hours per week worked by rota averaging 5 days out of 7 including working regular weekends. It would be expected that the successful candidate would work regular additional hours as required. Job share arrangements may be considered.
