This appointment is for a Clinical Fellow (ST3 level or above) to join the Haematology Service for 6 months with the possibility of an extension. The successful candidate will be based in the Haematology Department at City Campus, and be involved in a wide spectrum of General Haematology with a particular emphasis on malignant haematology.
Requirements for the role:
• IMT-level competencies
• have a minimum of 4yrs post grad experience.
• They also need to havecurrent GMC licenceto practice
• An interest in Haematology
The Haematology department is enthusiastic and committed to training. There is ample opportunity to gain experience in Clinical Haematology. Clinical and educational supervision will be provided within the Department.
Current activity within clinical haematology is approximately 6000 inpatient episodes/yr, 12,000 day case attendances/year and nearly 30,000 outpatient appointments/yr. There are currently 11 consultants who provide the Haematology malignancy service, working in teams covering Leukaemia/BMT, Myeloma, MPN and Lymphoma /CLL with most consultants working across at least 2 teams.
The successful candidate would be given the same training opportunities as our other specialty registrars with regular weekly StR teaching sessions and would enter the StR on-call rota during the second month of the post based on their clinical skills and knowledge.
The Department is highly active in clinical research with an extensive portfolio of NCRI and commercial clinical studies across all disease areas, and has recently been renewed as one of 13 Bloodwise TAP (therapy accelerated programme) centres across the UK. Our clinical trial activities are currently supported by a team of 13.6 whole-time equivalent posts (nurses, data managers, set-up coordinator, a pharmacist and a technician). Many of the Consultants are active members of the NCRI clinical study groups and subgroups with broad representation across disease areas and NUH is a major recruiter to NCRI-led collaborative academic studies.
