Job Title: Landscape Architect

JBA Consulting is an independent company committed to sustainability in environmental and engineering services. Our growing Landscape and Arboriculture team is seeking enthusiastic Landscape Architects with demonstrable postgraduate consultancy experience. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of professionals to develop innovative solutions that enhance resilience against climate change.
Our projects primarily focus on the water environment, including coastal and fluvial erosion management, flooding, and nature-based solutions such as sustainable drainage, river restoration, and natural water management. We also work with teams involved in green and blue infrastructure, urban regeneration, residential development, renewable energy, and transport infrastructure.
Location:
The position can be based in any of our offices in Portsmouth, Newport (South Wales), Coleshill, Saltaire, Newcastle, or Edinburgh, depending on the candidate's location. JBA supports agile working arrangements for greater flexibility.
Qualifications and Experience:
Key competencies required for the role:
* Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including graphical communication
* Ability to lead projects from inception to completion
* Engagement with clients to understand requirements and develop project briefs collaboratively
* Leadership in meetings and effective communication of technical and business issues
* Experience in leading small teams, planning approaches, and delivering outputs on time and within scope
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, review completed work, and mentor junior staff
* Liaison with clients, stakeholders, and regulators via in-person and digital communication
* Alignment with JBA’s commitment to positive impacts on colleagues, clients, suppliers, and local communities
Desirable qualifications and experience:
* A recognised degree (or equivalent) in Landscape Architecture
* Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (CMLI) or on the Pathway to Chartership (P2C)
* Full UK driving licence
* A varied portfolio, especially involving water management schemes
* Experience in designing and implementing both hard and soft landscape works
* Knowledge of preparing material for planning applications (outline, full, reserved matters)
* Proficiency with design software for landscape proposals from concept to detailed design and construction
* Commitment to sustainable and innovative solutions
* Ability to organise, plan, and undertake site surveys, including risk assessments
* Experience in landscape planning and EIA is advantageous
* Interest in preparing tender submissions is a plus
