Clinical Fellow in Cornea & Cataract Surgery

Ashford and St. Peter's Ophthalmology Department is looking for a Clinical Fellow in Cornea & Cataract Surgery to join our current team for a period of one year. Applicants should have a broad experience in ophthalmology, including phacoemulsification cataract surgery with some previous exposure to cornea & anterior segment surgery preferred.
Main duties of the job
* The timetable will include sub-specialty clinics in cornea and cataract surgery and a minimum of two theatre lists per week.
* The post holder will support the junior trainees and liaise closely with the nursing staff and consultants.
* The post holder will be expected to participate in the on-call rota.
* Active participation in educational half-days, teaching sessions, research, audit and departmental meetings will be expected.
* The post holder will also be able to apply for study leave to attend meetings and conferences outside the region.
* The appointee will have secretarial support. All consulting rooms have a personal computer with access to the internet.
* St. Peter's Hospital has a modern post-graduate centre and both sites have full library services. The Trust is committed to supporting CPD.

Job responsibilities
The Department of Ophthalmology forms part of the Specialist Surgery & MSK Division. Miss Heidi Chittenden is the Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology.
The Ophthalmology Department manages 48,000 outpatients a year together with over 3,000 ophthalmic surgical cases each year. On the St Peters and Woking sites there are dedicated eye clinics with nurse practitioner support. On the Ashford site there is a dedicated eye clinic, eye ward and eye theatre, supported by ophthalmic trained nurses.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Further Training
* MBBS or equivalent
* Part 1 FRCOphth or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Part 2 FRCOphth or equivalent
Experience
* At least five years experience in clinical ophthalmology, including cataract surgery
* Experience in cornea and anterior segment surgery

Salary: £61,825 per annum, plus £149 HCAS plus Additional Rota Payments
