Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and passionate Production Supervisor to join the Medicines Manufacturing Centre (MMC)—a cutting-edge NHS pharmaceutical production facility based in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland.
The MMC is in its final design stages, with facility construction planned through to September 2025. Initially, staff will be employed by Northumbria Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust, with employment transferring to the Medicines Manufacturing Centre Legal Liability Partnership (LLP) upon its formation under TUPE regulations.

The Medicines Manufacturing Centre (MMC) is a brand-new, purpose-built NHS pharmaceutical production facility located at the Northumbria Innovation and Manufacturing Hub in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland. This cutting-edge centre is part of the North East and North Cumbria Provider Collaborative and has been established to meet the growing need for high-quality aseptic products.

Main duties of the job
* To contribute to the delivery of a GMP compliant pharmaceutical manufacturing facility that optimises the regional benefit from the £30 million funding provided by NHSE.
* Join a growing Production Management team dedicated to building a culture where staff feel valued, supported, and motivated to help patients from behind the scenes.
* Provide day-to-day floor-based supervision in the cleanrooms, supporting the manufacture of safe and effective unlicensed medicines.
* Be a visible and approachable leader, setting high standards for cleanroom behaviours, documentation, and GMP compliance.
* Support the onboarding, training, and competence development of production staff.
* Help shape a positive and inclusive production culture focused on teamwork, continuous improvement, and pride in patient impact.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To supervise pharmaceutical manufacturing activities within the MMC cleanrooms, ensuring all operations are carried out in accordance with GMP and the MMC’s MS Licence.
* To provide visible day-to-day leadership for cleanroom teams, ensuring smooth operation, staff coordination, and high standards of compliance.
* To ensure all activities follow approved SOPs, batch records, and documentation processes.
* To participate in the training, validation, and performance improvement of cleanroom staff.
* To support the Production Leads and Production Manager in delivering an efficient and responsive manufacturing operation.
* To act as the first line of leadership for Production Operatives and Accuracy Checking Technicians, ensuring they feel supported, informed, and part of the team.
* To promote a culture of pride, purpose, and professionalism—helping staff understand the vital impact of their work on patient care.
* To contribute to key production metrics and participate in performance reviews and quality improvement initiatives.
* To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership, fostering collaboration, open communication, and a shared sense of purpose across the production team.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Level 3 or BTEC qualification preferably in Pharmaceutical Manufacture discipline or relative experience.
* Postgraduate diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance
Experience
* Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge, gained through training, including pharmaceutical manufacturing, preparation, procurement and contracting, auditing and unlicensed medicines.
* Expert knowledge of isolators and laminar airflow technology.
* Evidence of successful team management
