ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Automotive Product Development Engineer, you will lead all Australian and New Zealand Vehicle Tuning for local market conditions. Of key focus is suspension and handling, working in collaboration with 3rd party engineering providers and liaising with R&D Head Quarters overseas to develop localised product tuning for road, track and off-road including upgrade packages.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Suspension Design & Tuning :
1. Identify product localisation requirements.
2. Develop, tune, and optimise suspension systems: shock absorbers, springs, sway bars, control arms, and bushings.
3. Design suspension setups tailored for various applications (e.g., street performance, off-road, motorsports).
Testing & Validation :
1. Provide guidance to chassis engineers at headquarters R&D on formulating ANZ local requirements, coordinate development activities with suppliers, and lead testing and evaluation of improved versions.
2. Plan and execute suspension testing programs (both track and road tests) to assess and validate performance, ride comfort, and handling characteristics.
3. Perform vehicle dynamics analysis using data acquisition tools and software such as MATLAB, Simulink, or CarSim.
4. Conduct NVH assessments to ensure optimal ride quality.
Product Development :
1. Identify priorities for necessary engineering actions.
2. Coordinate the development of the reinforced suspension required with focus on 4X4 and utility / pick up vehicles.
3. Support for scoping and selection of chassis development suppliers.
4. Collaborate with the design and manufacturing teams to develop new suspension products and components.
5. Support prototype development, fabrication, and installation of suspension systems for testing.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
2. 3+ years of experience in automotive suspension system design, tuning, and vehicle dynamics, ideally with off-road performance & motorsports focus.
3. Previous experience in vehicle manufacturing R&D.
4. Previous experience in pick-up truck undercarriage development & engineering.
