Under the direction of the director or designee, the Behavioral Health Clinical Educator is responsible for the development and delivery of training in behavioral health evidence-based practices (EBPs) and vetting training materials provided by other trainers. Collaborates with the team on the approval of material to be included in the Learning Management System for training behavioral health clinicians. Facilitates access to training and technical assistance to promote behavioral health workforce development using a lens of EBPs, cultural humility, and trauma-informed principles. Oversees training logistics such as registration, certification of training completion, compilation of training evaluations, and reporting regarding training completion to interested parties. The Behavioral Health Clinical Educator must have significant clinical experience providing care in EBPs and especially in any modality of treatment in which the Behavioral Health Clinical Educator may provide training. Activities to support the development of Community Behavioral Health Centers, a new network of community-based clinics offering real-time and high-quality access to behavioral health treatment; key components of Massachusetts Medicaid’s (MassHealth’s) Behavioral Health: Roadmap for Reform initiative.
1. Develop and maintain a repository for training and technical support for Masters’ pre-licensed and licensed clinical professionals employed by Community Behavioral Health Centers (CBHC).
2. Facilitates and delivers training in behavioral health evidence-based practices via different modalities, including in person, live online, and to reside in a Learning Management System or other on demand, online modality.
3. Lead collaborative efforts to create the CBHC system of technical assistance and clinical consultation for CBHCs in evidence-based practices.
4. Ensure trainings provided follow a learning-centered approach to curriculum development (Dialogue Education (Vella, 2002)), and develop learning experiences grounded in adult learning theory principles such as respect, immediacy, relevance, safety, engagement, and inclusion.
5. Facilitates expansion of training opportunities to the broader clinical behavioral health workforce and create professional learning communities for ongoing best practice sharing, collaboration, and professional dialogue.
6. Leverages subject matter and clinical experts in the field of behavioral health to identify emerging best practices and partner with entities developing expertise with training on these practices.
7. Assist in the development and preparation of course materials and online distribution, including publication and organization of learning objects in the LMS.
8. Work with training consultants and vendors to review training content and to be delivered meets the defined needs, including delivery of training according to requirements defined in contract documents.
9. In collaboration with the BH Workforce Training team, identify and vet training resources, consultants, and vendors according to a defined method of review. Update this method of review to keep current with clinical and educational best practices, and requirements defined in contract documents.
10. Consults with subject matter experts and others to create instructional content that effectively engages the learner and ensures that all information is accurate, consistent, easy to understand, and well organized.
11. Conducts training needs assessments and analysis in order to derive targeted competency-based frameworks, training strategic frameworks and learning objectives for the various curricula that might be required.
12. Work with the instructional design team to review training materials being built, providing feedback regarding the behavioral health training content, assuring such is presenting training materials that are in line with the evidence-based practice which is the focus of training.
13. Work with the Director, or designee, to establish and maintain strong relationships with clients and customers as well as identify, develop and foster new client relationships to support the BH Workforce Training Center, and cultivate technical assistance opportunities by assessing client needs and aligning with UMMS/ForHealth Consulting expertise and solutions.
14. Provide reinforcement to the Director, or designee, in strategic planning, financial planning, service delivery and service integration.
15. Conduct ongoing assessment and oversight of needs, planning, program implementation and program evaluation to document needs, gaps in services, and successes in meeting consumer needs and CBHC goals for the program. Oversee and coordinate the activities of the core service areas for the Behavioral Health initiative, including program management and oversight, data management and collection, program evaluation and reporting, training and professional development, and communications support, ensuring each achieves its goals and objectives for support and facilitation.
16. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with UMass Chan and other public agencies to foster innovative services and service line expansion in business.
17. Establishes and maintains productive collegial relationships with key client agencies and designated client contacts. Works collaboratively with customers to identify and meet their needs, ensures effective work processes, and jointly develops strategies for enhancements leading to service improvement and revenue growth.
18. Work independently to successfully achieve established objectives and deliverables within respective timelines.
19. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills necessary to interact with clients and staff.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Master’s Degree in a field related to behavioral health care, including psychology, social work, or providing behavioral health counseling.
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE
* Licensed behavioral health clinician such as LICSW, LMFT, LMHC with 7-9 years of clinical experience in providing evidence-based practices and therapies.
* 5-7 years’ experience providing training in behavioral health evidence-based practices or treatments.
* Strong commitment to public service with an entrepreneurial attitude, balanced with the ability to respect, galvanize, organize and coordinate constituent groups.
* Comfortable leading effective meetings and work sessions, with all levels of staff and leadership.
* Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE
* Demonstrated success working within a project team focused on delivering training for evidence-based practices in behavioral health care.
* Working knowledge of the breadth of behavioral health service lines and supports commonly offered within public health care systems.
