The general pharmacy department is looking for recruit a pharmacy assistant to perform general duties which will support the efficient running of the department. We are looking for an enthusiastic pharmacy assistant to join our highly motivated and focussed teams. To perform a variety of tasks associated with the supply of medicines to our wards. The successful candidate will received the required training for the post.
The post holder will work from 8.30 till 5pm four days of the week and 10.30 till 7pm one day of the week
The post holder would be expected to work towards a BTEC level 2 certificate in Principles and Practice for pharmacy support staff.
Experience in dealing with the public
Good organisational skills
Demonstrate high levels of accuracy in all areas of work
Able to work with PC’s input data and other information
The post holder will be required to undertake further education, training and validation before being allowed to undertake the duties required of this post.
The post holder will also have to deal with telephone enquiries into the department and will have to use their knowledge and experience to answer the query or pass it on to a relevant member of the pharmacy department.
Be able to work in a team or autonomously when working on the wards during top up duties.
To participate in GDP training to meet the requirements of the wholesale dealer

To undertake all mandatory training as requested by the Trust

To perform activities within dispensary
To ensure that all customers and telephone calls are attended to promptly in a friendly manner and referred on appropriately
Receive prescriptions according to current procedures through the prescription tracking system
To dispense for in-patient, out-patient and patient discharge, including oral cytotoxic medication
To generate labels using the pharmacy computer system, to ensure the appropriate issues points are charged and patients have adequate directions for taking their medication
To ensure records are correctly maintained using the pharmacy computer system and paper records are archived according to Pharmacy Archive Procedure
To perform reception duties including dealing with patients and NHS staff enquiries either face to face or by telephone therefore good communication skills are essential.
To dispense medicines in accordance with standard operating procedures under the supervision of the responsible pharmacist ensuring that stock levels are correctly maintained on the JAC system
To carry out routine stock checks and expiry date checks and ensure stock is rotated according to procedure
To ensure accuracy of work at all stages of the dispensing process and to pass the South West Dispensing Accuracy Assessment every 2 years
To use the automated dispensing machine as required by the department
To maintain a clean, safe working environment by participating in the daily, weekly cleaning and tidying of dispensary
To perform all activities in accordance with training and departmental standard operating procedures
