We are seeking a full-time Haematology doctor to work at Registrar level, based at Musgrove Park Hospital within the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fixed term post for seven months, covering the maternity leave of one of our Specialist Registrars. The post is primarily based at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, but registrars contribute to a County wide service that includes telephone advice to Yeovil District Hospital, as well as primary care.
The post-holder will share clinical and laboratory duties with one other Specialist Registrar, and will work within our team of eight Haematology Consultants, seven Specialist Nurses, two SAS doctors, one IMT doctor and one Clinical Fellow. There is flexibility within our existing team to welcome applicants with or without independent laboratory reporting experience. The ability to manage a busy inpatient and outpatient workload, under supervision from the consultants, is a key requirement.
The post-holder will share the day-to-day management of the inpatient ward and liaison haematology with the other non-consultant, post-graduate medical staff. The consultants provide strong oversight on the ward, typically discussing all patients and bed management twice per day. The appointee will be expected to run independent outpatient lists, again with supervision, including pre-assessment clinics for patients having chemotherapy. The post usually includes laboratory work, reporting blood films and bone marrows, if the appointee is interested in this area and has suitable experience.
As an organisation, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust offers employees a wide range of benefits including flexible working, NHS pension scheme, generous annual leave allowance and a commitment to career development.
We are proud of our skilled, diverse workforce and as an inclusive employer we welcome applications from all backgrounds. The post holder will be involved with teaching and training junior doctors and medical students. There are opportunities to pursue clinical work, quality improvement projects and research commensurate with the post-holder’s interests, and further their educational objectives.
