Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse - Children's Emergency Department
The Children's Emergency Department at The John Radcliffe Hospital currently has vacancies for a Children's Junior Sister/Charge Nurse.

You will need to be an enthusiastic individual with good communication and leadership skills alongside a passion for delivering compassionate high-quality care as part of a large multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
The overall purpose of this role is to:
1. Act as the shift coordinator on a day-to-day basis, providing supervision and support to the multi-disciplinary team.
2. Develop, manage and monitor the performance of a team of nurses, ensuring that the highest standards of care and safety are achieved and maintained at all times.
3. Promote effective communication and teamwork at all levels.
4. Demonstrate clinical leadership skills and evidence of specialist knowledge.
5. Assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in management of staff within the Emergency Department including human resource management, clinical governance, and risk management.
6. Contribute toward the strategic and operational development of the department.

Person Specification
Education/training/experience
* Registered Nurse (Part 1, 8, 12, or 15 of register depending on area of practice) or National certification in area of Practice.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an ongoing NMC revalidation.
* Evidence of achievement on a Nursing and Midwifery, (NMC) approved Mentorship qualification.
* Minimum of 3 years acute care registered nurse experience.
* UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post.
* Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice.
Leadership and Management
* Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate.
* Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team leaders/ward manager/unit coordinator.
* Acts as a role model and is able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
* Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective care delivery.
* Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety.
* Previous experience of managing clinical incidents and complaints.
* Previous experience in the relevant specialty.
* Previous substantive management experience of specific clinical area.

* Articulate and knowledgeable of skills needed to deliver a high standard of care in the area of practice.
* Able to work under own initiative within boundaries of role.
