Systems Engineering Manager sought within Somerset division of global specialist equipment manufacturer offering comprehensive benefits package and further career development opportunities.
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the Systems Engineering Manager will have direct responsibility for leading, empowering and motivating a growing team of Systems Engineers. The Systems Engineering Manager's responsibility will cover concept to commissioning and field trials, ensuring on-time delivery, within strategic operational budget and to specification.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for implementing the systems engineering strategy and will work closely with internal and external key stakeholders, team leaders, project managers, manufacturing, service, and customer representatives.
The Role
1. Manage and lead 'Systems Engineering' activities across applicable projects.
2. Develop and implement a strategy compliant with ISO / IEC / IEEE 15288:2023 “Systems and software engineering – system life cycle processes.”
3. Advocate and lead the adoption of best practice Systems Engineering to improve the delivery of the Engineering function.
4. Manage the systems engineering budgets and contribute to the development of future forecasting.
5. Lead on the induction and delivery of requirements from Stakeholder to Product-level Requirements, establish functional and logical diagramming, and contribute to the development of validation and verification plans.
6. Lead and manage systems engineers and teams, ensuring that the teams work cohesively and collaboratively. Using SMART objectives, guide the team toward successful project milestones through to completion.
7. Offer expert advice to other engineers, including supporting the training and development of engineers through formal and informal mentoring to become future systems engineers.
The Person
1. Systems Engineering Degree Bachelors or Masters or demonstrable equivalent.
2. A registered Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership.
3. Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) qualified would be advantageous but is not essential.
4. Significant experience of practical application of best-practice Systems Engineering in a relatable engineering industry.
5. Practical experience in implementing a 'Systems Engineering' approach into a business.
6. Experience of recruiting, interviewing, and hiring Systems Engineers from an internal talent pool of non-Systems Engineers as well as external for experienced hiring.
7. Must have excellent influencing and negotiation skills at multiple organisational levels.
8. Displays advanced leadership traits.
9. High level of integrity and accountability with a results-driven mindset, able to set the standard, and hold people accountable to deliver.
10. Project and budget management skills.
11. Experience of effectively coaching others.
12. Able to implement and develop best-practice Systems Engineering.
