Consultant Psychiatrist in Access and Wellbeing Service
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust
North Yorkshire and York stretches from Richmond and Whitby in the North to Selby in the South. It is a diverse geographical landscape. It is estimated that the total population in York is 208,079 (2019) and Selby 85,400 (2014). There is a notable aged population in York along with families of different nuclear status. Therefore, the needs of the population in terms of mental health are diverse.
A vacancy has arisen due to the previous post holder leaving the post. It is a community-based post.
The Access to Mental Wellbeing Service is a gateway into secondary mental health services covering the York & Selby area reaching as far afield as Pocklington in the East, Easingwold in the North. The service receives referrals from Primary Care, Social Care, Police, and internal teams such as Psychiatry Liaison and Crisis Teams. The service offers a Brief Intervention pathway for a range of common mental health difficulties to reduce the requirement for secondary care intervention. The service works closely with NHS Talking Therapies and First Contact Mental Health Workers based in GP Practices.
The team is multi-disciplinary, working with people aged 18-65 years within the York and Selby location. It utilises the expertise of doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, and support workers. The post also accommodates a core or GP trainee and a higher trainee post.

TEWV, using our Quality Improvement System, has introduced Purposeful and Productive Community Services (PPCS). This aims to organise community teams to ensure we are consistently delivering high quality, evidence-based interventions, and clinicians feel supported and empowered to do the best possible job. We want to reduce the amount of time staff spend in front of screens and doing paperwork and release more time to be with patients. Part of PPCS is creating smaller, well-led clinical units (cells), and giving every cell member the skills to deliver evidence-based biopsychosocial treatments.
There is also a weekly leadership cell meeting, a weekly MDT/formulation meeting and a monthly clinical governance meeting.
