Position: LGK Lead Heritage Project Officer, full-time, 26-month fixed term contract. Salary £26,200 – £28,032 (pro-rata) per annum dependent on experience.
LGK in the Community is an established heritage and food charity formed in 2014 in memory of the late Lakis Panayiotou, a food and heritage entrepreneur. LGK uses food and heritage as a vehicle to assist the needy, celebrate culture, and capture stories at risk of being lost in time. We have grown to be a well-recognized third-sector organization running projects and fundraisers to assist people suffering from serious chronic and life-threatening conditions. Our heritage arm has produced award-winning productions broadcast on mainstream TV in the UK and internationally.
We are seeking a Lead Heritage Officer for a new heritage programme funded through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, celebrating the journey of women of Walsall from various migrant and established communities. The project aims to work with these communities to record their stories, share their culture through food, and celebrate their heritage.
Overall purpose of the job:
To support the effective delivery of LGK’s Queens of the City programme, which is divided into three sections:
1. Heritage Through Stories: A collection of stories, both old and new, to be used in a digital and physical exhibition that educates young people and all generations on Walsall heritage and migration.
2. Heritage Through Food: A food programme delivered in schools and community settings that teaches young people and their families diverse cultural dishes, the memories they have, and the heritage behind each dish, while also exploring healthier versions of cultural cooking without sacrificing taste.
3. Heritage Through Pictures: An art programme that gives artists and art enthusiasts across Walsall the opportunity to creatively interpret what a Walsall queen is to them, forming an augmented reality mural in Walsall.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support with the recruitment of up to 20 volunteers for the programme.
* Develop 10 heritage ambassadors from the volunteer pool.
* Manage and co-develop the learning materials for the school heritage migration courses.
* Support with the management and development of learning courses for the ambassadorial programme.
* Assist with classroom/workshop delivery of migration heritage and food in schools.
* Develop a support group with key stakeholders to assist with project delivery.
* Manage the assigned action plan for project delivery.
* Coordinate and manage all associated events that form part of the action plan.
* Provide regular update reports to the project manager.
* Develop an online recipe and cookbook that represents the migrant communities of Walsall.
* Coordinate and manage interviews as part of the heritage journeys component.
Other Features of the Job: The job will require travel across Walsall and neighbouring boroughs to meet local community members and stakeholders regularly.
Person Specification:
* An understanding of Walsall's heritage strategy.
* Experience in delivering heritage programmes.
* A sound understanding of healthy cooking.
* Knowledge of the role food plays in celebrating heritage.
* Volunteer management and support skills.
* Experience delivering workshops in community and school settings.
* Strong writing and report writing skills.
* Experience working with community/voluntary groups.
* Networking and developing partnerships.
* Ability to work to a timeframe and deliver results.
* Ability to deliver workshops/training to primary school children and adults.
* DBS clearance.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Appreciation for heritage.
* Undergraduate degree level of competency or equivalent experience.
* Digital training qualification or equivalent experience.
