Purpose of the role The House magazine is looking for a Staff Writer to conduct and write up interviews with leading political figures from the Cabinet down, as well a writing long-form features, and shorter news stories. The role may also involve some commissioning. Key Responsibilities Conduct long form interviews with senior politicians and others. Write news stories and features about public policy. Represent The House in the broadcast media and any other required forums, helping to raise the magazine’s profile across Westminster and beyond. Create journalism that has impact and is picked up by rivals. Use social media to tell stories and lead the online conversation. Assist with administrative tasks – uploading etc – when needed. In addition to this you are required to carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by your direct line manager. Experience Working knowledge of and interest in UK politics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Ability to make decisions on live news coverage authoritatively and quickly.
