An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Practice Educator – Sleep and Respiratory Physiology (Band 7) at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. This role is pivotal in leading educational development, training, and clinical practice improvements within the Sleep and Respiratory Physiology team.
The postholder will work in a leadership capacity, overseeing the development and expansion of the service, ensuring high standards of patient care, and facilitating the professional growth of the physiology and technical team. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing training programs, managing educational initiatives, and supporting staff in gaining relevant competencies in sleep diagnostics, therapies, and lung function testing.
Additionally, the postholder will have line management duties, oversee external training collaborations, and deputise for the Sleep Physiology Manager as needed. They will play a central role in achieving and maintaining IQIPS accreditation by ensuring staff training, competency assessments, and compliance with best practices.
This role requires strong leadership, communication, and teaching skills, along with extensive experience in sleep and respiratory physiology. It is ideal for a motivated individual passionate about staff development, quality improvement, and patient care excellence.

Main duties of the job
The Clinical Practice Educator – Sleep and Respiratory Physiology will take on a leadership role in developing and delivering training initiatives while supporting the growth of the service. They will oversee staff education, implement structured training programmes, mentor apprentices, and collaborate with external education providers to enhance learning opportunities. The postholder will provide day-to-day supervision and management of the physiology and technical team, ensuring professional development through appraisals, competency assessments, and mentorship. They will also maintain high standards of patient care by overseeing clinical activities, providing specialist advice, and contributing to IQIPS accreditation, audits, and research. Workforce and service planning will be a key responsibility, ensuring the efficient management of training resources while supporting policy and service improvements to drive excellence in sleep and respiratory physiology.

Experience
* Extensive experience in sleep and respiratory physiology diagnostics
* Proven experience in leading training and education within a clinical setting
* Proficient on CPAP therapy, lung function testing and advance diagnostic sleep studies
* Experience in mentoring and supervision
* Experience in quality monitoring and audit processes
* Experience in Full Polysomnography Reporting
* Experience in policy writing
Knowledge
* Up-to date knowledge of clinical practice
* Detailed knowledge of lung function testing techniques such as spirometry, gas transfer and plethysmography
* Expert knowledge of complex diagnostic sleep studies and therapies - CPAP and NIV
* Participation in Quality Assurance audits
* Understanding of accreditation framework such IQIPS and their educational requirements
Qualifications
* BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent)
* Degree at master's level or equivalent experience
* Registration with RCCP/ AHCS (or actively seeking registration)
* PGCert in Education or equivalent teaching qualification
* Qualification in advanced lung function or Sleep Physiology (ARTP accredited, ESRS exam, RPSGT qualification)
* Management/ leadership qualification
