This is an exciting time to join the medical Same DayEmergency Care team at Darlington Memorial Hospital as we continue to improvethe service and experience for patients requiring emergency medical care. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic,dynamic and highly motivated Registered Nurse that will see in excess of 30patients passing through each day. A particular emphasis on faster initialassessment and decreased overall length of stay.
Main duties of the job
You will work closely with our experienced and friendlyconsultant team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the medical emergencypatient's care, providing first line treatment. Having your own cohort ofpatients and working closely with the multidisciplinary team you be able totreat patients promptly, effectively and efficiently allowing for an excellentpatient experience.
The dependency of patients and service usersalong with their presenting clinical conditions varies daily within medicalSDEC, and with it the requirements of their nursing needs. Staff nurses withinmedical SDEC are required to be dynamic and flexible in accordance with thevarying needs of the patients within the department. The staff nurse is required to ensure thatpatients are rapidly assessed and their nursing plan of care is documented,communicated, implemented and evaluated at regular interals during the patientsstay. The nurse will ensure that any concerns, issues or conditional changesare escalated early to ensure patient comfort and safety is maintained.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
To assess patients needs and develop, implement andevaluate programmes of care.

Person Specification
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
* Awareness of Health and Safety / Clinical Governance issues.
* Basic IT skills, including e-mail and word processing
* Evidence of Continual Professional Development
* Experience in venipuncture & cannulation
* Immediate Life Support certification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Level 1) with current NMC registration
* High standards of nursing care
* Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent

* Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post
* Effective communication and customer care skills
* Reliable
* Enthusitic
* Able to work under pressure
Experience
* Experience in nursing
* Recent experience caring for acutely unwell medical patients
Statutory Registration
* Registered nurse with valid NMC PIN
