Band 4 Assistant Psychologist - Weston-super-Mare
An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join the North Somerset CAMHS. We are a friendly and innovative service looking to welcome a new Assistant Psychologist with experience of working with children and young people.
This post is 3 days a week. 22.5 hours
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a member of North Somerset CAMHS multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be allocated a Clinical Psychologist as a supervisor and supported in developing skills needed for a career in the NHS.
The post holder will work within the core team, supporting assessments and treatment alongside other team members. There will be an opportunity to develop an understanding of evidenced based treatments for disorders and to be part of treatment teams for young people and their families. There will also be an opportunity to support the running of groups. The post holder will support the team by developing information packs, undertaking evaluations and audits to inform service development. The post holder will be offered supervision specific to Core CAMHS.
In addition, they will be given opportunities to engage in a small amount of clinical work under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist. This could include individual work with young people and families, conducting psychometric assessments, supporting the running of groups and helping with intensive work required in some Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

Job responsibilities
Service Development
* To develop information packs and materials to improve clinical practice within CAMHS.
* To help develop systems of evaluation and audit that fit with the development of i-Thrive.
Clinical
* To support CAMHS clinical work through supporting the running of groups, psychometric assessment and intensive therapeutic work.
* Supporting the delivery of assessment & treatment pathways.
Other
* Participate in regular supervision and undertake annual appraisal with Clinical Psychologist to identify personal and professional objectives and targets and development needs.
* Comply with the Trust policies and procedures, observe Health and Safety and Fire Regulations and report all hazards and potential hazards to appropriate departments.
* Any other duties as required, in line with grade and level of responsibility.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Psychology Degree 2:1 or higher
Skills
* High level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to work with clinical and management colleagues at all levels across a range of organisations.
* Ability to work effectively as a team member.
* Ability to use own initiative and work independently.
Experience
* Experience of working with children with complex emotional, behavioural or developmental needs.
* Ability to communicate and relate effectively with children, young people and their families, adults and colleagues, using a variety of communication systems and techniques including de-escalation.
* Ability to demonstrate specialist knowledge of child and adolescent emotional, behavioural and developmental difficulty and recognise factors that can contribute to challenging behaviour.
Knowledge
* Understanding and experience of positive behaviour support.
* Understanding and experience of positive behaviour support with young people with learning disabilities.
