School Admissions Assistant - Admin & Clerical Weston Super Mare Contract £16.07 per hour Our client is looking for an experienced School Admissions Assistant - Admin & Clerical. Working under the general supervision of the Pupil Places and Planning Manager & the School Admissions Officers: (a) assist with the admission of pupils to all Infant, Junior, Primary & Secondary Schools within North Somerset; (b) allocate school places under the supervision of the School Admissions Officers; (c) provide an advisory service to the public, schools and colleges, referring to the School Admissions Officers whenever necessary. 2. DIMENSIONS Each year the School Admissions administers aproximatley: 5,000 bulk school place requests 2,000 in year transfer school place requests 300 school appeals All of the above applications have to be undertaken within a limited statutory timescale. All involve a significant number of parents and school staff contacting the team. The postholder must administer applications in accordance with the council's policies and practices correctly and efficiently. The section can receive in excess of 100 emails a day and over 250 telephone enquiries a week. In serving the public the post-holder must always be courteous and helpful. 3. MAIN DUTIES 1. To deal promptly and efficiently with enquiries, whether written, by telephone, or e-mail, about school admissions; 2. To record and update applications for the admission of pupils to schools on the team's database to reflect a child's movement within schools in North Somerset; 3. To process and prepare documentation for school admission appeals for presentation by School Admissions Officers; 4. To assist the School Admissions Officers with the preparation of the cases of 'in-year' applications for action by the School Admissions Officers, and to deal with the decisions made as appropriate; 5. To assist with the collection of information relating to the capacity, organisation and numbers on roll at all state mainstream schools in North Somerset; 6. To assist the School Admissions Officers in the collection of information required by statute to be included in the documentation made available to parents and schools about the admission (including appeals) to school arrangements.
