Could you be a Youth Support Worker for vulnerable young people?
Are you passionate about supporting young people facing homelessness and helping them regain independence? At Peabody, we live by our values: Be Kind, Do the Right Thing, Love New Ideas, Celebrate Diversity, Keep Our Promises, and Pull Together. If these resonate with you, we want you to join our dedicated team.
Who we support
The young people we work with are navigating complex challenges, including isolation, mental health struggles, abusive relationships, substance misuse, and involvement in gangs or county lines. Your role will be to provide guidance and build strong, trusting relationships, helping them feel safe and supported as they work towards stability and independence.
About the roles
You will be working at our established Young Persons Project in Berkhamsted, which offers temporary housing to young people aged 18-25. As a Youth Support Worker, you'll work closely with a team of compassionate and motivated colleagues, supporting young people through their journey. You’ll manage a caseload, meet with them weekly to discuss goals, and assist them in finding suitable accommodation when they’re ready to move on.
Working hours
17.5 hours per week (0.47 FTE), with 1 sleep-in per fortnight. You’ll need to be able to work shifts, early, late, including some weekends and bank holidays.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who can build trust with young people, listen non-judgmentally, and support them in overcoming their challenges. You’ll need to work independently, remain calm in difficult situations, and have a knack for de-escalating potential conflicts.
* Do you have experience working with young people aged 18-25, or personal insight into the challenges they face?
* Have you managed challenging behaviours or worked in environments where safeguarding and trauma-informed care are key?
* Are you ready to make a real difference in the lives of homeless young people?
