Deputy Manager
Purpose of Post
1. To work under the direction of the managers and deputise for them as and when required.
2. To support the aims and objectives of the setting and assist the managers in the organisation of a high-quality establishment for children from birth to 5 years.
3. To direct and give support to other personnel within the setting.
4. To implement the daily routine in the base room.
Staff Management, Team Building and Development
* Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure the philosophy behind the project is fulfilled.
* Maintain staff awareness of key practices within the setting, e.g., health and safety, food hygiene, administering first aid, fire drill procedures, in accordance with the code of practice.
* Support any temporary staff.
* Actively identify relevant staff training and development.
* Oversee the supervision and training of student placements within the setting.
* Your own CPD will be expected and encouraged.
* Attend staff meetings outside working hours.
High Standards of Care and Education of the Children
* Ensure staff always comply with the setting’s policies, procedures, and standards, including health and safety, hygiene, inclusion, confidentiality, etc.
* Ensure the security of the premises and the outdoor play area.
* Liaise with parents/carers, other family members, and staff to help ensure that children's needs are met and that parental choice is considered in terms of care given.
* Ensure that a high standard of quality care and education is always provided.
* Lead a team of practitioners and always ensure good practice.
* Manage the quality of resources within the setting, including maintenance of materials and equipment.
* Maintain, update, and write any new risk assessments.
* In conjunction with the manager, formulate and operate a programme of activities suitable for the age range of children in your area.
* Prepare the children's records in your group using the computerised record-keeping system and institute reviews for parents/carers with the Manager.
* Foresee all children's needs and give appropriate physical, emotional, and intellectual guidance.
* Liaise with the Local Authority and other professionals associated with the setting.
* Undertake specific domestic jobs within the setting, e.g., preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment and such other duties and responsibilities.
* Ensure good hygiene and cleanliness are always maintained and be responsible for health and safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children.
* Ensure the confidentiality of information received.
This post requires a CRB check as there may be periods of unsupervised access to children. An Enhanced CRB and satisfactory references would be obtained prior to commencement of employment.
