Here on 9a East we prioritise education to all members of the nursing team (registered and Non- registered). We support and develop the team to have an in depth knowledge and understanding of evidence based practice to develop and enhance their clinical practice within the speciality of Gastroenterology.
The right candidate will have extensive experience in Gastroenterology medicine and act as a role model to all members of the team ensuring the highest standard of care is delivered to the patient.
We are looking for a dynamic, compassionate and innovative individual to deliver education programmes to new staff members and advance more senior members of the team to work to their full potential creating a highly skilled workforce.
The post holder will work closely with Matrons, ward and department managers giving support and guidance to ensure that the National Framework for Preceptorship Standards are met for the organisation. The post holder will be expected to work alongside the Newly Registered Nurses and Nurse Associates and therefore clinical competency is essential.
You will work collaboratively to formulate strategies to ensure consistency of practice within the ward and integrate policies, education, practice development and research relevant to the clinical area.
Main duties of the job

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is a developmental post and band 6 applicant will be considered.
Role Summary
To direct the provision of innovative education and to develop and maintain the safe and effective practice of both registered nurses and non- register staff on Level 9a East at University Hospitals Sussex. The post holder will oversee and implement the development of education programmes for clinical staff (registered and un-registered) and learners on placement by coordinating educational activities and assessments of learning within the department and in conjunction with clinical educators throughout the Trust. You will actively promote and contribute to inter-professional learning activities across the department, Directorate, Division and Trust.
7. The post holder will have extensive experience in gastroenterology medicine and be an expert in the assessment, planning and implementation of all areas of patient care acting as a role model to all members of the team in the delivery of a high standard of care adhering to the NMC, national and Trust policies and guidelines.
8. You will be a highly experienced senior nurse that demonstrates strong leadership in a variety of situations and would have implemented quality improvement within your clinical area in line with the Trust True North objectives. The post holder will work closely alongside the ward manager ensuring that all staff a competent with a strong focus on creating and maintaining a nurturing a supportive environment.

External: Clinical and education networks, Integrated Care Board, higher education institutes
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To oversee collaborative working between the clinical educator, members of the multi-disciplinary team, ward manager and senior management team in delivering quality assured education and professional development for clinical staff and learners on placement.
9. To proactively lead on practice development and education requirements within the department and Trust including shared learning from patient safety / harm free care.
10. To uphold the advancement of knowledge and skills using approved learning and assessment procedures including competency assessment.
11. To ensure the clinical area is a positive learning environment through acting as an expert resource and reporting on up to date local training resources.
12. To monitor and report on education activity to senior management team and clinical education team (People).
Service Delivery and Improvement
Lead and direct the learning and continuing professional development of clinical staff and learners on placement.
13. Ensure that the education delivered is responsive to service developments.
14. Use coaching/mentoring-style techniques to identify learning needs, improve standards, and escalate concerns where appropriate.
Ensure robust assessment of clinical staff and learners on placement.
15. Develop and deliver planned educational programmes for clinical staff and learners on placement, utilising technology enhanced learning where appropriate.
16. Advise clinical staff in relation to educational opportunities and professional development.
17. Create, sustain and support a positive learning environment where practice development and change can flourish.
18. Lead on evaluation and feedback to improve education provision.
19. Keep up to date with relevant clinical / education trends / drivers at local, regional and national levels.
20. Oversee the annual training needs forecast and recharge of education activity.
21. Collaborate in policy development and changes in practice.
22. Contribute to clinical governance strategies.
Communication
23. Demonstrate effective communication with patients / relatives, clinical staff and learners on placement.
24. Manage in conjunction with senior management or clinical education team (People) issues or queries related to role.

27. Work cohesively with all stake holders to providing a unified approach to education and practice development.
Patient Care Delivery
Retain supernumerary status when working clinically to facilitate supervision and assessment of clinical staff and learners on placement.
28. Work in accordance with the NMC Code (2018), Trust policies and procedures.
29. Remain accountable for own practice, taking every opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence.
30. Keep up to date with relevant clinical knowledge at local, regional and national levels.
People Management and Development
Manage continuous learning and development and evidence-based practice for clinical staff in the department.
31. Manage effective working relationships and the development of cohesive team working.
32. Make effective use of available resources and eliminate waste in order to contribute to the cost effective delivery of services.
33. Ensure appropriate balance between education, clinical and administrative duties are fulfilled.

Maintain professional registration.
