Job Title: Deputy Charity Shop Manager
Responsible to: The Charity Shop Manager
Responsible for: Stock and pricing, general management duties.
Purpose of the Role: The management of the stock. Processing of donations, overseeing stock levels and pricing. Identifying quality goods while sorting. Supervising stock sorting volunteers. Ensuring good stock levels is maintained and rotation of stock on the shop floor.
Supporting the Manager with administration, banking and financial management when required. Occasional Saturday work may be required to cover sickness or holidays.
Hours: 20 hours per week (4 hours 5 days per week, and there may be some requirement to work a Saturday from time to time to ensure adequate cover.)
We are seeking a Deputy Manager to join our busy team at the Fishermen’s Mission Charity shop in Helston.
This is an extremely successful ‘community hub’ charity shop on two floors.
Main Duties:
Responsible for the management of the stock. Processing of donations, overseeing stock levels and pricing. Identifying quality goods while sorting. Supervising stock sorting volunteers. Ensuring good stock levels is maintained and rotation of stock on the shop floor.
Supporting the Manager with administration, banking and financial management when required. Occasional Saturday work may be required to cover sickness or holidays.
Additional duties:
Handling, moving, sorting and processing all clothing donations that arrive in the shop. Replenish stock in all areas of the shop.
Work closely with the manager to ensure stock levels are adequate on the shop floor. Will be trained in Gift Aid procedures but would be helpful to have knowledge of how gift aid helps to raise extra funds.
Responsible for bar coding all donations to the correct price, and ensuring that clothing is clean and tidy, steamed if necessary.
Working within safety regulations, and ensuring the volunteers are safe in their environment, and working to the same processes.
Able to work well under pressure, and on own initiative, have good attention to detail, and able to identify high end goods, and be able to know how to get the best deal for the shop.
Supervise and contribute to the delivery of the tasks listed in the daily job list, including cleaning, stock replenishment and sorting of donations.
Know how to do the ‘Open’ and ‘Close’ the shop, procedures for the till, how to bank the daily takings and other management responsibilities as required.
Take responsibility for the shop in the absence of the Manager, covering for leave and sickness when required.
Essential skills required:
Experience of sorting and pricing items with an excellent knowledge of clothing and accessory designers.
Good IT skills. Experienced in using Epos Till (or similar).
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work on own initiative.
Excellent people skills, ability to work with people of all ages and abilities.
Desirable:
Experience of working in a retail environment, preferably a charity shop or similar.
An empathy with the charitable sector.
Terms and Conditions
Based: At our Charity Shop in Helston
Annual Salary: £13,104 p.a
Probationary period: 6 months.
Group personal pension plan: available on satisfactory completion of 3 months service.
Life Assurance: up to four times annual salary.
Critical Illness cover: paying 75% of salary if unable to work for longer than 6 months due
to one of the covered conditions.
Holiday: 25 days annual leave plus public holidays
