A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal with litigation experience to join Admiral Law's Complex Litigation Team!
About Admiral Law
Admiral Law is a growing business; we are a legal practice run by a team of experts who specialise in personal injury claims. The customer is always at the heart of everything we do, and we aim to be exceptional in the service we deliver.
Admiral Law operates as a standalone entity within Admiral Group and operates as a team with appropriate specialists but with the added support and benefits of being part of the wider business.
We’re looking for people who are keen to learn, excited about getting stuck in and are ready for a challenge to help us to achieve our aim of creating an excellent service for our customers.
The Role
The Complex department deals with road traffic accident claims up to £25,000. The team also deal with Fatality, Bankruptcy and Capacity claims, all of which require excellent client care, technicality and sensitivity.
This is a fee earning role and you will be responsible for running your own case load of Part 7 litigated RTA claims. Such claims will involve complex issues of fact or law, and will often require letter of claim, drop out from the OIC/MOJ portal (due to complexity or value) and ultimately Part 7 Issue or application to transfer files from Part 8 to Part 7. You will be responsible for running the claim from around 6 months to limitation up to trial securing a positive outcome for our clients. Your caseload will comprise a mixture of liability admitted and denied cases, with potential to be of significant value.
The role will provide a fantastic opportunity to not only work on complex files but also develop your own technical knowledge and litigation skills on higher value files.
You will always act in the best interests of your client, proactively advancing the case to a positive outcome for our client. You will be responsible for investigating liability, offering excellent client care and ensuring that all aspects of the client’s injuries and losses are maximised. Injuries may range from general orthopaedic injuries to neurological, ENT and/or fibromyalgia injuries. Investigations into financial losses can often require detailed and specialist advice, and may range from employed loss of earnings, self-employed losses to on-going treatment or care needs. Don’t worry if you’ve not dealt with these losses before as you will have training alongside your Team Manager's support and guidance.
Litigation wise, you will be responsible for issuing the Part 7 Claim, serving the claim and following directions up to and including trial. The role will involve drafting Part 7 Court pleadings, instructions to Counsel and include the drafting of witness statements, applications, and schedules of loss.
As the team sit within the SIT & Complex department, you will have opportunities to work closely with the Serious Injuries Team, often investigating and building a claim towards potential high settlement (ie over £25,000) at which point the claim will be transferred to SIT (or settled by you with their guidance if over £25,000). You will have the opportunity to grow and develop through close links with solicitors and learn from their mentoring and buddying schemes. There will also be opportunities to shadow members of that Team on significant and catastrophic Multi-Track cases, attending conferences, hearings and settlement meetings. A positive approach to cross department communication is essential, as is the case with all areas of Admiral Law.
Whilst supervision and mentoring will of course be provided, you will be expected to identify, value and handle cases of considerable complexity in a progressive manner towards a positive outcome for both the firm and our clients.
Skills and Requirements
* Ability to demonstrate prior PI Case Handling experience.
* Case Handling experience of running a Personal Injury claim and being able to review medical reports and value claims using JC Guidelines and case law.
* Previous experience of running Part 7 Litigation cases.
* Experience of running a Fast Track claim to trial is sought after, albeit not necessarily essential (as not all cases may go to trial).
* Client care skills are key.
* You will be provided with hands on training for any areas of complex / litigation which you are unfamiliar with.
Working Conditions
You will be based in Ty Admiral in Cardiff City Centre, working core hours of 37.5 per week (Part time applications may apply). The role is one which aligns with our Smart Working model, meaning your weeks will be split both at home and in the office. At present the team office days are every Monday. For any new starters there is a minimum requirement of 1 month in office training which will include your in-person induction and buddying with your new team. This may be extended to 3 months where necessary.
You will be provided with achievable targets (to include settlement and billing). Additionally, you will be expected to play your part in any marketing events, both internal and external. You will also be expected to mentor handlers in other areas of the business, assisting them with queries via face to face and team clinics, workshops and training opportunities.
