YouSeq is a biotechnology company that makes molecular testing kits that are used in hospitals and labs around the world to help fight cancer and other diseases. We are seeking a senior scientist to head up our NGS activities. This is a pivotal role that requires a “go-getter” with deep technological expertise in the NGS space and an understanding of the clinical oncology landscape. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to spearhead the development of new products, guide the evolution of our current offerings, and further embed YouSeq as a leader in the NGS-based oncology space.
A typical day will include:
· Project management responsibilities for specific NGS projects, including ensuring day-to-day management of deliverables
· Liaising across multiple internal departments to support the commercial realisation of research projects
· Analysing DNA sequencing data using our suite of bioinformatics pipelines
· Communicating the NGS data analysis results in the form of technical reports and presentations
· Meeting with the NGS team to discuss next experiments, making sure to set the lab work in the context of the wider goals of the business
Essential Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:
Excellent communicator: you will be responsible for communicating technical concepts to a variety of audiences, from scientific experts to commercial teams and external stakeholders
o You will serve as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, presenting complex NGS concepts in a clear, concise manner
o You will also ensure our customers are provided best-in-class technical advice
Pro-active: you will spearhead the development and expansion of YouSeq's NGS product portfolio
o Demonstrating a deep understanding of NGS technologies, including sequencing platforms, library preparation, and bioinformatics analysis
o Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
o Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
o As a lab owner, you will constantly review and improve processes and policies, especially those of your lab, to ensure productivity and efficiency are maximised throughout the team
Clinical Oncology Expertise: an up-to-date knowledge of clinical oncology trends and advancements, especially pertaining to germline and somatic variant analysis.
o You will translate that knowledge into actionable strategies for the company, proposing projects to the leadership team in service of introducing innovations to our NGS product range
o Engage with key opinion leaders (KOLs), researchers and clinicians to ensure product relevance
o A strong foundational awareness of the general NGS market and trends to aid in ensuring we continue to meet market demands with our NGS products
Essential Qualifications/Experience:
· PhD or equivalent in genomics, molecular biology (or a related field) and a track record of contributing to successful NGS product launches; or a minimum 5 years of experience in NGS product development or research
· 3 years of line management experience; as you will manage the existing NGS team of 3 including setting goals, reviewing progress, and providing feedback, enabling them to meet their objectives and identify development opportunities. You will also plan and delegate workloads to ensure timeliness of projects
