Overview
As a PI Underwriter, working directly with the MD, you will be responsible for contributing to the sustainable growth of the Professional Indemnity book by delivering profitable premium and conversion growth. You will assist in developing and implementing the underwriting strategy, help drive strategic planning, and collaborate with colleagues internally while building relationships with new and existing brokers and partner insurers.
Location: This role could be based in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, or Perth.
How you'll make an impact
* Underwrite and assess risk following the underwriting philosophy, rules, and guidelines, using rating tools and pricing methodologies to maximize growth and profitability.
* Seek new business opportunities within existing relationships and the wider insurance market.
* Engage with brokers for servicing and renewal of the existing book, supporting underwriting strategy and business growth.
* Handle underwriting referrals, provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced underwriters to build product knowledge and sales skills.
* Develop and maintain strong broker relationships across regions, contributing to a sustainable professional indemnity portfolio.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize processes and improve efficiency.
* Participate in strategy, sales, and underwriting meetings.
* Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities and threats.
* Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
About You
* Some experience in underwriting professional indemnity is required.
* Knowledge of the local insurance marketplace.
* Ability and desire to learn about critical business issues and financial drivers.
* Understanding of organizational and regulatory rules, policies, and procedures.
* Customer focus and positive broker interaction skills.
* Basic analytical thinking and financial acumen.
* Ability to identify problems or opportunities, analyze information, and support decision-making.
