A rare and exciting opportunity has opened up in the Dermatology department at Clifton hospital for a full-time healthcare assistant.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and competent individual who is able to show initiative and work proactively. The department is very diverse with a wide variety of clinics and therefore requires the ability to learn quickly within a fast-paced environment.
The treatments we apply to patients require staff to be able to use moving and handling techniques capably and can require substantial physical exertion. This is a fantastic unit to work on, and we look forward to making the ideal candidate part of our team.
Main Duties of the Job
* To provide specialised care for patients on the dermatology/rheumatology unit under the direct or remote supervision of registered practitioners.
* To work in the busy dermatology/rheumatology daycase unit and autonomously, running various dermatology and rheumatology outpatient clinics.
* To use personal efficiency and knowledge to contribute to the development and delivery of a quality service. To be self-motivated and use initiative when necessary.
* To undertake the hospital's in-house training for HCAs and maintain an agreed level of competence.
* To ensure a high standard of care for all patients by effective communication with patients, carers, and the wider health care team.
* To work proactively as a member of the multi-disciplinary and multi-professional health care team, with support from registered practitioners.
* To be flexible as the post holder may work in different clinical areas across the trust.
* Undertake a range of procedures relevant to clinical sphere of responsibility, including venepuncture, wound care management, bandaging, undertaking idrionics treatment, and the removal of patch tests.

Job Responsibilities
* Greeting patients and answering the phone.
* Chaperoning in Doctors and CNS clinics, completing paperwork for fast track clinics and understanding clinic outcomes.
* Working on the day case unit, including applying topical treatments, wound care, leg dressing, and bandaging.
* Removing patch tests competently.
* Completing biopsy pack paperwork for theatre.
* Completing skin assessment tools for patients in clinic.
* Performing venepuncture on a daily basis within clinics.
* Printing blood cards.
* Assisting in rheumatology consultant clinics.
* Stocking all consulting rooms with required paperwork.
Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Willingness & ability to undertake NVQ Level 2.
* Willingness & ability to undertake venepuncture.
Experience and Knowledge
* Experience as a health care assistant.
* Understanding of quality and change in the clinical setting.
Skills and Ability
* Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding.
* Able to present factual information and refer questions to others where appropriate.
* Basic IT skills.
* Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care setting.
* Able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
* Flexibility for shift work.
* Physical ability to perform manual handling for patients on a fast-paced unit.
