Benefit from support and engagement through dedicated management and leadership We are a reputable and thriving port located in Teignmouth and we are seeking a skilled and motivated Port Operator to join our dedicated team and contribute to the continued success of our port operations. Accountabilities To work safely and responsibly in all aspects of the role. Input to the development of Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and participate in Toolbox Talks. Undertake core cargo handling operations including operating the following machinery: Front Loading Shovel, Forklift Truck, Skidsteer, Mobile Lifting Platform, Mobile Material Handling Cranes, Tug master and Bagging Equipment. To work as part of the cargo handling team and assist in general port operations and stevedoring. Prepare and move cargo and assist in the preparation of stores. Ensure good housekeeping on the Port as directed by the supervisors. Undertake basic maintenance tasks as required across all port assets. Travel to ABP Plymouth Port to assist with operations as required to undertake mooring/unmooring operations and to supervise traffic on and off the ferries. Work flexibly to permit full operational benefit of labour. Essential Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies To work in compliance with the ABP Safety, Environmental and Security policies. Existing Licence holder for operational plant. Aptitude to learn new skills and have a flexible outlook. Ability to fit into and enhance the existing Teignmouth and Plymouth operations team. Ideal Previous experience of working in a port or other similar marine or operational environment. The shift pattern involves working a total of 520 hours over 13 weeks at an average of 40 hours per week. Work is scheduled from Monday to Saturday, with Sundays being paid at double time for any work done on that day. Any hours worked beyond the initial 520-hour contract during the 13-week period, including Sundays and overtime, will be compensated at a rate of time and a half.
