About Us
We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled and enthusiastic teacher and leader within our successful and supportive English faculty, where teaching and learning is at the heart of our collaborative practice. You will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues committed to delivering a diverse, challenging English curriculum which prioritises the coverage of fundamental skills that lie at the foundations of English. Not only this, but our carefully mapped curriculum also seeks to ensure the material students learn is current and relevant, widening their cultural capital as well as fostering a love of the subject.
The ideal candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner and have the enthusiasm to impart a love of English on an amazing set of students. They will also have excellent subject knowledge, the ability to teach KS3, KS4 and the desire to teach KS5. Due to the secondment of a current Key Stage leader to the post of Curriculum Team Leader, this post comes with an exciting opportunity for a leadership responsibility within the faculty. This TLR responsibility will be for the 2025/26 academic year in the first instance and will initially involve the strategic and operational oversight of the KS3 curriculum.

Heanor Gate Spencer Academy is an ‘Outstanding’ secondary school and sixth form (Ofsted, June 2023) which is oversubscribed in Year 7 for the second successive year. We are extremely proud of our inspection report which is a testament to 7 years of school improvement. It states that ”teachers are subject experts”, “pupils are ambitious about their future”, “classrooms are calm places, where pupils focus on their learning” and “leaders are relentless in their desire to provide the absolute best education for all pupils and to serve the local community”.
