The successful candidate will join the existing responsible business team and deliver consultancy services including delivery of client carbon reduction strategies, technical advisory services and net zero carbon solutions. The role will involve working with both internal and external design teams and contractors to deliver highly sustainable buildings, primarily for the Department for Education. The role also entails supporting Mace corporate ambitions to reduce client carbon emissions by 10 million tonnes and deliver 500 hectares of new biodiverse green space by 2026. You’ll be responsible for: Lead the implementation of client net zero carbon strategies on individual projects and programmes from feasibility, through design, procurement and construction, agreeing project outcomes and ensuring their delivery by the project team. Oversee and quality assure more junior grades in delivery roles working on these programmes Stakeholder management and leadership with project managers to support delivery, resourcing and reporting to the client Ensure that wider sustainable design principles are embedded in projects and working with the wider Mace project team to deliver client outcomes. Support work winning through bid support, innovation, client liaison, upskilling of colleagues and external profile-raising of Mace/Mace services Supports the development of client climate change, sustainability and/or social value strategies on individual projects, including agreeing project outcomes and ensuring delivery by project team. Provides service excellence, delivering purpose-led and measurable outcomes for clients, with particular focus on climate change, social value, and biodiversity. Provides technical expertise and promotes innovation in a particular area of sustainability, such as waste, energy/carbon, water, responsible sourcing of materials, sustainable buildings, etc. Provides generalist advise and support to major issues of sustainability with all relevant stakeholders. Supports the drive for Mace to be a leader in climate change and sustainability. Manages team, and champions career development such that they have the opportunity to work to the best of their potential in a safe and supportive environment. Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work. You’ll need to have: Experience working with clients to identify carbon reduction opportunities Knowledge of sustainable building design, including embodied and operational carbon and energy reduction, in new build and refurbishment projects, including programme, cost and operational impacts of NZC strategies. Proven track record of driving design teams to maximise sustainability Knowledge of the implementation of green building accreditation schemes, in particular BREEAM. Ability to lead/direct a project team to deliver the most appropriate solutions to meet client objectives. Be able to translate technical topics into layperson language and articulate the value of sustainability. Champion sustainability, encouraging behavioural change throughout the business. Developing innovation and best practice, including clearly communicating these to the wider business and our clients. Able to translate best practices from one client/sector to another. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with client and stakeholders including design team members, contractors, sub-contractors and regulators.
