Main duties of the job
1. Managerial Leadership
1. Support and assist the ward manager to provide continuing responsibility for the ward.
2. Ensure staff competence for clinical practice procedures, using the trust competency framework, including appropriate underpinning knowledge and practical skill.
3. Monitor performance and manage the nursing staff in areas of responsibility, ensuring all employment records are locally maintained and current in the absence of the ward manager.
4. Ensure that all staff update mandatory training in line with Trust guidelines.
5. Maintain accurate staff records regarding Annual leave, sickness, and absence.
6. Represent the ward at Trust-wide forums and inter-agency meetings, deputizing for the Ward Manager when required.
7. Ensure the safe and effective use of all medical devices within the Intensive Care Unit.
8. Actively take part in and support Directorate initiatives and issues.
9. Use clinical skills and knowledge to provide specialist advice and support to peer group staff, patients, and relatives.
10. Act as a clinical expert and positive role model for all staff.
About us
1. Provide professional leadership, advice, and guidance to nursing and non-nursing staff within the nursing environment and foster collaborative partnerships with other disciplines.
2. Lead and develop the supervision and management of clinical nursing practice within the area of responsibility to ensure safe and effective holistic evidence-based care.
3. Lead in the development of clinical standards ensuring these are set, embedded, and monitored in accordance with the needs of the service in conjunction with the ward manager.

1. Support the Matron/Senior Sister to maintain 24-hour continuing responsibility for professional, policy, and procedural practice to ensure the continuance of best practice in your area during your absence.
2. Monitor agreed quality improvement metrics to support reporting weekly on compliance.
