Job Overview
We are seeking to recruit a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in critical care. The role would be suitable for a dual critical care/anaesthetic consultant.
The successful candidate will initially work at both the RBCH site and the Poole General Hospital site for the Critical Care component, before the Units are amalgamated in late 2025. The Critical Care Unit will then be entirely RBH-based. The Anaesthetic component will require delivery of anaesthetic sessions across both sites.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will be in a team of 16 Consultants whose job plans are divided between critical care and providing anaesthesia for surgical lists (RBCH/PGH). This is a full-time 10PA contract with the option to take on an additional 1.0 Direct Care PA.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively and flexibly within a team are essential. The successful candidate will be expected to take an active role in the clinical supervision and training of Anaesthesia trainees from the Wessex Deanery as well as trainees undergoing core medical training and Foundation doctors working in critical care.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* Fellowship / Membership of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or completed a period of education & training in anaesthesia recognised by PMETB
* Completion of dual CCST training in Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. Applicants may be interviewed within 6 months of anticipated achievement of CCT, or suitable equivalents.
* Fellowship of Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent.
Clinical Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Anaesthetics/Critical Care
* Ability to offer expert opinion on a range of problems in both emergency and elective aspects of patient care.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients in theatre and critical care.
* Ability to perform within a multidisciplinary team.
