We have an exciting opportunity for a 3rd Line Database Administrator to join our Technology team. The 3rd Line Database Administrator is responsible for the delivery and assisting and provide solutions to all things Database related, whether that is a service request, incident, risk or any in-function work. The 3rd Line Database Administrator will be a Subject Matter Expert to the Change function, supporting projects from shaping through to closure and assist the DBA Lead in ensuring risk, budgetary and relationship obligations are met and take on responsibilities relating to training, continuous development & development of the DBA team. The Role You’ll understand and be aware of the risk and control environment in your area of the business and adhere to processes, procedures and policies in order to minimise risks. Ensuring all activities are undertaken in consideration of and in line with Technology and CBS Strategies. Support the incident management process, problem management and implementation of changes. Engage with third party support contacts when required to support problem resolution. Undertake system and database administration duties as required, including out of hours tasks where required. Provide 3rd line support on Technology Infrastructure systems ensuring agreed SLAs are met. Identify, propose and document continuous improvement of hardware and software and processes within the department. Analyse existing systems to ensure security and efficacy as well as limitations of software/hardware. Regularly inspect and work to improve current systems and procedures. Ensure disaster preparedness; secure backup and recovery methods to protect against system disruptions. Recommend improvements or alternative technologies to better meet business needs. Ensure that BAU actions are completed accurately, correctly and on time. Contribute towards the day-to-day support and administration of the databases and associated environments including live, DR and test environments as required. Deputise for the DBA lead. Escalation point for DBA team. Ensure the technology DBA systems operate efficiently in accordance to agreed service availability metrics. Proactively engaging in projects to deliver the appropriate solution. Create, update and review documentation following our systems library process. Identify and manage risks. Challenge existing processes and procedures. Work alongside other technology teams on problems and Incidents. Follow the change control process. To carry out any other reasonable additional duties. Out of hours on-call for critical systems will be a requirement for this role in-line with the Working Practice Charter and will attract an additional allowance. About You Experience we’d like to see includes: Engaging with third party suppliers to resolve issues. Using ITIL processes including incident, problem, and event management. Operational 24x7 support. Using Agile methodologies Working in change projects in a regulated sector Usage of database technologies and administration including Oracle 19c Knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring tools and standards. Knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, batch scripting etc. Knowledge Preferred But Not All Essential Includes Understanding of UNIX administration and scripting including Solaris 11.3/11.4. Understanding in Middleware applications e.g. Weblogic, Oracle Fusion Middleware. Knowledge or experience of risk frameworks is beneficial. Qualifications ITIL v4 Certification is advantageous.
