Job summary We are looking to appoint to a whole time Substantive Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, joint 50/50 appointment between Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Chesterfield RoyalInfirmary NHS Foundation Trust. The contract is held with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate would be expected to work with existing OMFS consultants to manage the Head and Neck oncology workload both ablative and reconstructive and would also work with existing colleagues to provide the routine OMFS/Trauma/Oral Surgery service. We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers. Main duties of the job The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, effective and modern Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service, practicing the full remit of the specialty whilst recognising special regional and national specialist arrangements, e.g., Cleft/ Craniofacial Services. The appointee will deliver the CRHFT OMFS general and trauma pathway with clinics and operating at Chesterfield Royal Hospital but major surgery and follow-up being undertaken at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. A joint specialist orthognathic clinic with orthodontics will be undertaken at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within this teaching hospital environment. He/she will be required to cover for colleagues during planned and unexpected periods of absence and will have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and the proper functioning of the department. The successful candidate would be expected to work with existing OMFS consultants to manage the OMFS general and trauma service. It is also anticipated that the successful candidate will work with regional colleagues to develop the trauma and orthognathic service across South Yorkshire.
