Vacancy Description
Biomedical scientists work in healthcare laboratories diagnosing diseases and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment by analysing fluids and tissue samples from patients. They provide the 'engine room' of modern medicine - 70% of diagnoses in the NHS are based on pathology results provided by laboratory services.
Main duties include:
* To carry out Pathology investigations of patient samples under supervision as requested by the Clinical Services.
* To operate and assist in the maintenance of laboratory equipment according to departmental and manufacturer protocols and procedures.
* To ensure agreed standards for turnaround times of samples and results are met.
* To follow departmental operating procedures for Pathology analyses and undertake proper maintenance of equipment used.
* To ensure work is completed and a handover is communicated prior to leaving a section.
* To inform the senior staff or requesting clinician of non-conformances.
* To maintain confidentiality at all times.
* To become familiar with and proficient in the use of the information technology systems within the Department.

Training
You will undertake a BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science degree; the degree will include completion of the IBMS registration portfolio. Upon graduation, you will achieve HCPC registration as a biomedical scientist and be able to work in pathology laboratories.
You will be based in one of our laboratories in either Manchester or Birmingham, and attend the Nottingham Trent University (both online and on campus) one day a week.
